My name is Irene Hale I am 90 but I sometimes feel 190. I live in Guild House in Gloucester.
I was married in 1930 when I was 20. My husband was a journalist so I had a very interesting life, knowing about events in the city almost before they started. During the war I worked in telegrams and made some lifelong friends.
I feel I have been very lucky in having lots of very nice holidays. In the early thirties many people did not get paid holidays.
I have always been very interested in gardening and flowers. We had a very nice detached house in Merevale Rd but I had to wait l6 years before I had a daughter. We were on holiday when it was confirmed. My husband said he wanted to buy me a present. I chose a plate from an antique shop. I think it was £4. Many years later I gave it to my grandaughter who was told it worth £800.
My daughter married a scientist and they lived in Zurich for a year. We spent Christmas with them and did a little climbing on the Matterhorn. It was also my grand-daughters first birthday.
