Flashback: in memory of machines
Wednesday 14th July
Ada Byron King Building
Do you have any early computer hardware or software
you could bring along to show at Incubation?
On Wednesday there will be a room set aside for
an informal session where delegates can plug in and run their
own historical machines.
Please contact a member of trAce staff on your arrival
and they will transfer your item to a secure location where it
will be PAT tested (see below) and then kept securely until Wednesday
(you will be able to retrieve the item if preferred).
This session takes place in conjunction with many
other events throughout the Symposium. See, for example,
the following:
Paul Brown - Origins
- the early computer arts in the UK
Charlie Gere - A
question of placement: some brief thoughts about memory and location
Ted Nelson - Fixing
the Computer World
Alan Sondheim - Retrospective

Please note:
** Only plug-in items need testing - battery operated items can
be brought along on the day.
**You will not be able to access the University network at any
time so items must function offline.
All items submitted for the History of Computers
Show and Tell will be subject to a Portable Appliance Test (PAT)
in accordance with The Nottingham Trent University's Electrical
Safety Policy.
By submitting an item for inclusion, you agree that:
*Your item shall be included under the policy
*The item will be plugged into the University electrical supply
for operation and therefore you agree to a suitably qualified
technician employed by the University to test the item in accordance
with the Policy
*All tests will be carried out in a professional manner in such
a way as to limit any possible damage to property and personal
injury
*Due to the possibility of certain tests causing damage to equipment,
the owner or owners representative agrees to the terms of this
waiver
*Equipment tested by another organisation will be accepted as
valid under the University policy provided that it has a test
pass certificate with it containing the name of the person testing
the equipment, date of next test and equipment number
*The owner or owner’s representative will be required to
sign the University’s waiver form at the time of dropping
off the item for inclusion.
Copies of the waiver form will be retained by the University and
a copy given to the owner.
