Writers' Studios

Writers' studios are awarded to individual writers, or collaborative groups, in order to support and promote the development of web-based writing. They are not time-limited, but are reviewed annually and decisions on continuation are taken at that time.

They work like this:
The Writer's Studio consists of a 'foyer' type webpage introducing the writer or group and containing their biography, photo, and other relevant material, plus a link to an ongoing journal commenting on their work process. The studio space itself lies beyond the 'foyer' and consists of 20 Mb of webspace. We view this webspace as a closed area for experimentation and development. We hope that the writer will release material to public view, or for feedback, on a regular basis, but also respect their right to privacy for work-in-progress. We will work in consultation with the writer to promote and publicise their work where appropriate and they will have membership of the trAce User Group which represents the needs of our users.

The benefit to the writer:
The writer has access to 20Mb of free webspace (expandable by arrangement) and also to the advice and expertise of trAce (although we recognize that since we intend to support development projects it is very possible that their expertise will exceed ours!) They will receive a trAce webaddress of the style http://trace.ntu.ac.uk/studio/xxxx/ and a regular showcase on the trAce website. (which currently receives 12,000 hits a day in over 100 countries)

Selection:
Writer's Studios are normally awarded by invitation only, but there will also be opportunities to apply for space.
